The two common styles of men’s jackets are the Prince Charlie coatee and vest, used for formal occasions, and the Argyll jacket, used for semi-formal or daywear. Both styles are usually in black, although colours may also be used. The colours are more common with the Argyll jacket, where tweed can also be used for daywear. Other styles of jacket available are the Montrose doublet and the Sheriffmuir jacket, both worn with a lace jabot and cuffs as a finishing touch. For casual wear, we recommend a peitean, a revival of an old Jacobite-styled jacket usually worn with a peasant type shirt. However, a heavy sweater is also quite appropriate for casual wear. For the ladies, the long kilt skirt is complemented with a velvet sleeveless vest in a colour toning with the skirt colour. We recommend a blouse with a lace jabot to complete the outfit. The following illustrations show some of the styles available.
