We recommend purchasing tartan fabrics from Scottish weaving mills to ensure quality and accuracy in colours and setts. Registered tartans are available in family and district setts. District tartans include a number from Ireland, North America and Australasia, as well as Scotland. Fabric is available in 100% pure wool in weights ranging from lightweight (7-9 oz) to military weight (18-19 oz), but the most common weights are 11 oz, for ladies skirts, and 13 oz , normal kilt weight. In almost all cases, a minimum fabric order of 1 yard is required by the mills. We recommend viewing sample swatches whenever possible, so that true colours can be seen and sett variations can be discussed with us. |
